Curious about collagen?
Collagen seems to be everywhere in the health world today. If you’ve been wondering what it is and why you need it, you’re not alone!
What is Collagen?
Collagen is fibrous proteins that act as the building blocks for skin, bones, teeth, cartilage, tendons and other connective tissues. It provides structure and support throughout your body.
Collagen Provides the skin with elasticity it smooths, tones and prevents sagging of your skin. Collagen also helps in healing and repairing damaged bones and cartilages, and maintains the resistance, elasticity, and mobility of joints and connective tissue.
Unfortunately, with age, the production of collagen begins to slow which results in wrinkles and lines forming around mouth and eyes as well as on the face and neck.
This is a natural part of the aging process but fear not!
There are several ways you can try to slow this process and keep your skin healthy.
Vitamin C: Increasing your intake of vitamin C, which is key in the production of collagen. So, load up the vegetables and fruits!
Green tea: Green tea is almost always recommended as an anti-aging drink because of the compounds found in them such as catechin which is high in antioxidants that works to neutralize the free radicals that can damage and age your skin.
Lutein: Another powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals that tend to lead to decreased collagen. Lutein is found in green leafy vegetables such as kale and spinach.
Quit smoking: If you smoke stop now, it is a lifestyle that will affect your skin as much or more than any other choice.
Alcohol intake: If you drink alcohol, be sure to do so in moderation. Excessive alcohol consumption has similar effects on your collagen production as smoking.
Exercise regularly: Moderate exercise several times a week will help collagen production, will help to keep a healthy body weight
