Why you need to take your skin’s moisture levels more seriously
Winter is when skins dryness becomes most acute because of the cold and dry weather outside and the dry air from heating systems indoors.
4 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT DRY SKIN
DRY SKIN ACTS LIKE AGING SKIN
Dry skin behaves like old skin. When skin is dry, cell turnover slows down causing a buildup of dead skin cells in the outer most layer of our skin. The skin is more prone to aging and wrinkles when it is dry. Unfortunately, dry skin causes pre-mature aging.
MOISTURIZER DOSENT WORK WELL ON DRY SKIN
The dryer the skin is, ironically, the less it is able to take in hydration. Think of dry skin like a dry sponge. Add a little water to the surface of the sponge and it just sits there. Add a little water to a wet sponge and it soaks right in. Exfoliate with a scrub to remove the dead skin cells at the surface so your moisturizer can penetrate and hydrate the skin. Also apply your moisturizer right out of the shower it will penetrate better.
DRINKING WATER DOSENT MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN
It’s a myth that drinking 8 glasses of water a day with hydrate your skin. Instead ambient humidity in your environment plays a huge role. Using a humidifier in your home will make a significant difference. We recommend looking for products with ceramides in your products. These natural lipids attract water and bind it to the skin for hydration.
YOUR DRYNESS COULD BE A SYMPTOM OF A DEEPER ISSUE
Although dryness is common, it’s important to decipher regular dryness from other medical skin conditions. Skin diseases such as eczema, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis are not curable by cosmetics and require medical treatment.
