LASER HAIR REMOVAL Pregnancy
Laser Hair Removal during Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
We understand that it’s very difficult for you to shave your legs when you are pregnant. As your belly gets bigger, you can barely see your legs. Whether you are standing or sitting in the shower, it’s hard to do the job. Besides that, you may find more hair growth around the belly, nipples or other regions because of the changes in hormones. This excessive hair growth usually subsides after pregnancy.
Is laser hair removal safe for pregnant women?
Many health care providers recommend avoiding laser hair removal treatment during pregnancy. The reason is that there is not yet enough information about the effect of laser on the fetus. Laser hair removal works by targeting dark pigment in the hair. It causes thermal and/or mechanical damage to the hair follicle. It is not clear whether this procedure has a harmful effect on the fetus.
If you are pregnant and breastfeeding, we recommend putting your laser hair removal treatments on hold.
The application of pulse lasers has not been shown to affect more than the top layers of the skin. So, laser hair removal is not a dangerous procedure. But our sparkle technicians do not like to take chances with the well-being of clients. That’s why here at sparkle we do not perform laser hair removal during your pregnancy and breastfeeding period.
Can I get laser hair removal while breastfeeding?
There is no study that connects laser hair removal to negative effects on pregnant or lactating women. But there is also no evidence to guarantee that this is a safe treatment method during this time.
This lack of information is really a matter of concern. We can not guarantee your safety – or that of your child. So, when you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we will not perform laser hair removal because we take your well-being seriously.
During pregnancy, your choice should be more temporary hair removal solutions like waxing and shaving. We will happily re-commence your laser hair removal sessions once you have given birth and finished breastfeeding.
Pregnancy doesn’t last an unbearably long time. In spite of bodily changes, there is a subtle joy of pregnancy and this time should be enjoyed as much as possible.
Because we can not guarantee that laser hair removal is completely safe during pregnancy, we want to wait until you have given birth and finished breastfeeding.
During pregnancy, your wellbeing should be taken more seriously because another life is involved here. If you want to rid yourself of excess hair during this time, please consider more temporary methods like waxing and shaving.
