Laser Tattoo Removal Aftercare
What you do after treatment is just as important as the treatment itself. Let’s protect your skin and your results.
At Sparkle Lifestyle & MediSpa in Moncton, we use the advanced PicoWay laser for safe, effective tattoo removal with minimal downtime. But while the technology does the heavy lifting, your aftercare routine plays a huge role in healing, comfort, and final results.
Here’s everything you need to know to support your skin post-treatment and get the best possible fade.
Why Aftercare Matters
Laser tattoo removal works by using ultra-short laser pulses to break ink into tiny particles, allowing your body to flush them out naturally over time. While it’s a non-invasive treatment, your skin will go through a healing process—and how you care for it can speed recovery, reduce side effects, and prevent complications.
What to Expect After Your Treatment
- Mild redness, swelling, or warmth in the treated area
- Temporary whitening of the tattoo
- Possible pinpoint bleeding or blistering in some cases
- Gradual fading of the tattoo over several weeks
What To Do After Tattoo Removal
1. Keep it clean and dry
Gently clean the area with mild soap and water, then pat dry. Avoid scrubbing. This helps reduce risk of infection while your skin heals.
2. Apply a healing ointment
We recommend using a thin layer of a non-scented healing balm or ointment (like Polysporin or Aquaphor) and covering it with a sterile bandage for the first 24–48 hours.
3. Avoid heat and sweating
Skip hot showers, saunas, and workouts for at least 48 hours. Heat and sweat can irritate the area and increase the chance of blistering.
4. Don’t pick or pop
If you notice scabbing or blistering, leave it alone. Picking can lead to scarring or infection.
5. Protect it from the sun
Keep the treated area completely covered or use a high SPF (50+) if exposure is unavoidable. Sun can increase pigment changes and slow healing.
6. Stay hydrated and healthy
Your body does the ink removal, so drink plenty of water and take care of your immune system to support the fading process.
What to Avoid
- Hot tubs, pools, and ocean water for 7 days
- Tight or abrasive clothing over the area
- Direct sun exposure during the healing process
- Picking, scratching, or exfoliating the area
- Harsh products like retinol or acids until fully healed

Results & Follow-Up
Tattoo removal is a process—most tattoos require multiple sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. You’ll notice continued fading between sessions as your body clears the ink. Healing fully before your next appointment ensures better results and keeps your skin healthy.
