SCULPSURE VS COOL SCULPTING
WHO WINS AND WHY?
The waves of body positivity have created an ocean of self-love yet fat remains a demonized nuisance for all and getting rid of it has always been left to Liposuction but according to the most recent data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) its popularity has declined by 30 percent since 2000. (it remains one of the top five cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2018).
Clients are turning more and more to non-invasive methods for fat removal, the most popular and efficient being our two contenders of the day, SculpSure and Cool Sculpting.
Both these procedures are used to get rid of stubborn fat deposits that won’t burn even after the sweatiest Barry’s Boot camp.
SculpSure and Cool Sculpting will warrant that no physical scars are left behind while also not requiring any excessive rest time and all results are long-term if not everlasting. These two schemes are the closest you will get to a fat-removing wand and its gaining popularity fast with ASPS reporting a steady 7 percent rise.
So, what does SculpSure and Cool Sculpting do actually and which one is better? Well, read on below to find out!
What is Cool Sculpting?
Cool Sculpting — scientifically known as cryolipolysis — is essentially a procedure to freeze (and thereby kill), fat cells.
The FDA-approved treatment works with an applicator, think of it as a sort of a giant vacuum hose, which applies suction to the target area.
The name “Cool” comes from the regulated cooling plates used to bring down the temperature of the said fat cells, which cause deep-freeze damage to the fat cells, once destroyed the fat is naturally eliminated by the body.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
Most treatments will take up to 35 minutes but vary depending on the specific client.
When Will You See Results?
The process of “damaging” the fat cells does take a while and results can start to appear after a few weeks, but the final effects will take three months to show.
Where can you get Coolsculpting?
Just like Liposuction, you can use this FDA-approved method on the abdomen, “love handles,” thighs, upper arms, “bra fat,” back fat, “banana rolls,” underneath your butt, and the dreaded “double chin.” Essentially anywhere you can have unwanted fat, but the big caveat to this method is that it will only be effective on a certain “level” of fat, so those fake scrunched double chins and disappearing rolls caused by bad posture, won’t count!
The standard price of Cool Sculpting ranges from $1200- $1500, but it all depends on the sessions you need and the area of treatment.
Coolsculpting Side Effects:
The process of fat removal in Cool Sculpting will involve a lot of tugging, pulling and even pinching the skin since the cooling plates are sandwiched on top of the area of operation.
It is non-invasive but not pain-free! Expect pain, stinging, or aching.
A study from 2015 reviewed the results of people who had collectively done 554 cryolipolysis procedures over one year. The review found that any post-treatment pain usually lasted 3-11 days and went away on its own.
Other common side effects of Cool Sculpting include:
• Temporary redness
• Skin sensitivity
Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia
A rare but serious side effect of Cool Sculpting is paradoxical adipose hyperplasia. It occurs mostly in men.
The side effect will cause the fat cells in the treatment site to grow larger rather than smaller.
It’s not fully understood why this occurs. While it is cosmetic rather than being physically dangerous, paradoxical adipose hyperplasia doesn’t disappear on its own and will need further medical intervention to treat.
This hot off the press procedure turns Cool Sculpting on its head, and instead of “freezing” fat cells, it uses heat to get to the same results.
A laser is used to heat fat in the treatment area to the point of irreversible loss, once broken down, the fat cells are swept away by the body’s lymphatic system.
How Long Does SculpSure Procedure Take?
Quicker than Cool Sculpting, it only takes 25 minutes per session, meaning you can get rid of those pesky love handles even before your lunch break ends!
When Will I See Results from SculpSure?
You can expect to see results a week or two after the SculpSure therapy. The full effect of the treatment can be seen around the 2-3-month mark.
Where can you get SculpSure done?
SculpSure is currently FDA-approved to treat the stomach, “love handles,” back, thighs, and the “double chin.”
Unlike Cool Sculpting, you don’t need a “minimum” level of fat deposit to get SculpSure, much like Liposuction, and can target even the lightest layers of fat.
The price of SculpSure is comparable to Cool Sculpting as they both cost around the $1200- $1500, but again, it all depends on the sessions you need and the area of treatment.
SculpSure Side Effects
SculpSure uses a Laser to heat the skin, but with a built-in cool cycle, all you should expect with this style is some mild discomfort.
While perfectly safe to use, if you have extremely sensitive skin, proper consultations should be held before going through with the procedure.
Both systems have pros and cons but if you are in generally good health and are looking for an easy and fast way of getting rid of the last layer of fat than SculpSure should be your best chance for a more streamlined figure.
If you have extremely sensitive skin and excess fat, then Cool Sculpting will work properly for you.
All in all, both procedures are relatively pain-free, stress-free and will ensure that the target areas fat cells stay away unless you change your diet drastically, expect permanent results.
The SculpSure treatment was simple, totally comfortable (you feel it, but very tolerable) and while I am only about 5 weeks out I can see a difference and my spouse can as well. I wanted to post this because I would NEVER do liposuction, and I think there are a lot of people that would benefit from such a simple treatment.R.I.
It was my abdomen after having children. After the procedure, I definitely feel more confident that’s there’s less of me there.L.B.
