How to prepare for Belkyra — and what recovery can involve.
Belkyra differs from filler or neuromodulator injections and can cause noticeable swelling. The right timing, aftercare, and expectations are important, and instructions may be adjusted based on your medical history, anatomy, and treatment plan.
Before Treatment
- Tell your provider about medications, supplements, bleeding risk, allergies, swallowing issues, thyroid/neck history, previous chin or neck treatments, and medical conditions.
- Avoid alcohol, anti-inflammatory medication, and supplements that may increase bruising only if it is medically appropriate and your provider confirms it is safe for you.
- Plan the appointment away from major events, photos, travel, or important meetings because under-chin swelling can be noticeable.
- Arrive with clean skin and expect photos, marking, mapping, consent, and a treatment plan based on anatomy.
During treatment
- The under-chin area is cleaned and carefully marked to guide placement and reduce risk.
- You may feel stinging, burning, pressure, tenderness, or warmth during and shortly after the injections.
- Ice, topical comfort measures, or other support may be used when appropriate.
- The appointment itself is usually brief, but visible contour change is gradual and additional treatment is considered only after response review.
Aftercare
- Expect swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness, warmth, numbness, or a heavy/full feeling under the chin.
- Use cool compresses as directed and sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night if recommended.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, heat, saunas, hot yoga, alcohol, and aggressive pressure for the period recommended by your provider.
- Do not massage, squeeze, or aggressively press the area unless your provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Immediately after
Swelling and a full under-chin look are expected. Tenderness, bruising, warmth, and numbness may occur.
Early recovery
Swelling may be most noticeable early in recovery and then improve gradually. Plan social downtime based on your treatment and injector guidance.
Reassessment
