What Are Botox & Dysport?

Botox® and Dysport® are Health Canada–approved neuromodulator treatments that work by temporarily relaxing the specific muscles responsible for expression lines. A precise, small amount of the product is injected directly into the target muscle, softening existing lines and preventing new ones from forming with repeated expression.

Both products contain botulinum toxin type A — the difference lies in their formulation and diffusion profile:

  • Botox® (Allergan): The clinical gold standard. Precise, well-studied, predictable. Preferred for targeted areas where accuracy is critical, such as brow lifts and lip flips.
  • Dysport® (Galderma): A slightly different formulation that diffuses more broadly, making it well-suited for larger muscle groups such as the forehead. Many clients find Dysport kicks in slightly faster (3–5 days vs. 5–7).

During your consultation, we help you choose between the two based on your anatomy, goals, and treatment area.

Why Choose Sparkle for Botox & Dysport?

  • Physician-overseen care. Every treatment at Sparkle is performed under the direct medical oversight of Dr. Carole Williams, MD OBGYN, Medical Director. This is not a spa. Your results are backed by a clinical standard of safety.
  • Named injectors with specialized training. Our injectable team — Yannick Noel Mallet RN, Taryn McLaughlin RN, Brady Gaillard RN, Katie Sturgeon RN — specializes in advanced injection techniques including facial harmonization, masseter reduction, and preventative Botox protocols.
  • Both Botox® and Dysport® available. Most clinics carry one. We carry both — so your treatment is matched to your anatomy and goals, not to what’s in stock.
  • A consultation-first approach. We do not inject without a plan. Every new client receives a facial analysis mapping before any product is placed.
  • Serving Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview since 2012. Over a decade of results a

Botox & Dysport Treatments Areas

Horizontal forehead lines caused by repeated brow movement. Strategic injections relax the frontalis muscle to smooth the forehead while preserving natural expression and preventing brow heaviness.

(Typical units: 8–15 | Longevity: 3–4 months)

The vertical lines between the brows are one of the most common treatment areas. Injections relax the corrugator and procerus muscles that create that “resting frown” look — without freezing your face.

(Typical units: 15–25 | Longevity: 3–4 months)

Fine lines radiating from the outer corners of the eyes. Tiny injections into the orbicularis oculi muscle relax tension around the eye area, creating a smoother, more open and awake appearance.

(Typical units: 6–12 per side | Longevity: 3–4 months)

Strategic injections relax the muscles that pull the brow downward, allowing the natural lifting muscles to elevate the arch. The result is a subtle, refreshed opening of the eye area — no surgery required.

Botox or Dysport injected into the masseter muscles reduces their bulk over time, creating a slimmer, more defined jawline. Also highly effective for TMJ pain, teeth grinding (bruxism), and jaw tension.

(Typical units: 20–30 per side | Results develop over 4–6 weeks)

A small amount of product relaxes the orbicularis oris muscle, causing the upper lip to gently curl outward — creating the appearance of a fuller lip without adding filler volume. A great entry-level option or complement to lip filler.

(Typical units: 4–6 | Longevity: 6–8 weeks)

Vertical bands running down the neck that become more prominent with age. Botox relaxes these muscles for a smoother, more refined neckline — part of the “Nefertiti Lift” technique.

Botox injected into the underarm area blocks the nerve signals responsible for sweat production. Results typically last 6–9 months — significantly longer than most cosmetic applications.

Who Is This For?

The Preventative Client (20s & 30s) You want to stop lines before they set. Smaller “baby Botox” doses placed early can prevent dynamic wrinkles from becoming permanent static lines — one of the most cost-effective aesthetic investments available.

The Rejuvenation Client (40s & Beyond) You want to soften deep lines, lift a heavy brow, and look less tired without surgery. Our advanced techniques can take years off your appearance with precision and subtlety.

Men’s Botox (“Brotox”) We specialize in masculine injection patterns — preserving a strong brow shape and natural expression while softening harsh furrow lines and creating a more energized, approachable appearance.

Maintenance Clients You already love your results and just want to stay consistent. We make that easy with flexible scheduling and package pricing.

Results Timeline

Days 1–3: Minimal visible change. The product is settling into the muscle.

Days 3–7 (Dysport) / Days 5–10 (Botox): Movement begins to soften. Lines start to relax.

Months 3–4: Gradual return of muscle movement. Time to book your next treatment.

With consistent maintenance: Results often last longer as muscles become conditioned to relax. Many clients extend to every 4–6 months over time.

The Sparkle Process

01 : The Consultation: We assess your facial anatomy, review your goals, and build your treatment map. We discuss whether Botox® or Dysport® is the better fit for your specific areas.

02 : The Treatment: In 15–20 minutes, our injector places precise, fine-gauge injections into each target muscle. Most clients describe the sensation as a quick pinch. Numbing cream is available if desired.

03 : Immediate Aftercare Mild redness and tiny “mosquito bite” marks at injection sites are normal and typically resolve within 15–30 minutes. You can return to work immediately.

04 : Day 14 Check-In We offer a complimentary follow-up at the two-week mark to assess results and make any small adjustments.

Pre & Post-Care Guide

7 Days Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid blood thinners: If medically cleared by your doctor, pause Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Naproxen (Aleve), and high-dose Vitamin E or Fish Oil. These significantly increase bruising risk.
  • Pause herbal supplements: Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, and Ginseng also affect clotting — pause for 5–7 days prior.
  • Minimize alcohol: Alcohol thins the blood and increases bruising. Avoid for 48 hours before treatment.
  • No new skincare actives: Hold off on starting any new retinols, AHAs, or exfoliants in the treatment area.

24 Hours Before

  • Eat a full meal before arriving to prevent lightheadedness.
  • Come with a clean face — no heavy makeup or creams on the treatment area.
  • Disclose everything: Let your Sparkle provider know about any new medications, supplements, recent illness, or changes to your health history.

Immediately After Treatment

  • Do not rub or massage the treated area for at least 6 hours.
  • Stay upright for 4 hours after treatment — avoid lying face-down.
  • Avoid heat for 24 hours: no saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, or hot yoga.
  • No intense exercise for 24 hours — elevated heart rate can increase bruising and product migration risk.
  • No alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment.
  • No facials, peels, or other facial treatments for 2 weeks.

What Is Normal?

  • Tiny “mosquito bite” marks at injection sites resolving within 30 minutes
  • Mild redness or pinkness for 1–4 hours
  • Occasional small bruise (especially near the eyes or lips) lasting 3–5 days
  • A slight feeling of tightness or heaviness as the product settles — this resolves as the muscle relaxes
  • No visible results for the first 3–7 days — this is completely normal

Frequently Asked Questions

Both are Health Canada–approved neuromodulators containing botulinum toxin type A, and both temporarily relax targeted muscles to reduce wrinkles. The key differences are formulation and diffusion profile. Dysport spreads more broadly and typically kicks in slightly faster (3–5 days vs. 5–7 days for Botox). Botox is more localized, making it preferred for precise applications like the brow lift or lip flip. During your consultation at Sparkle, we recommend the right product based on your specific anatomy and treatment goals.

Typically 3–4 months, though results vary by individual. Factors that affect longevity include your metabolism, the treatment area, the units used, and how consistently you maintain your treatments. Many clients find that with regular maintenance, results begin to last longer as the targeted muscles become conditioned to relax.

It depends on the treatment area, your muscle strength, and your goals. Common starting points: forehead 8–15 units, glabella (“11s”) 15–25 units, crow’s feet 6–12 units per side, masseter 20–30 units per side. We build your personalized unit plan during your facial analysis consultation — we never use a one-size-fits-all approach.

Yes. Both are Health Canada–approved with decades of clinical use and a well-established safety record. At Sparkle, all neuromodulator treatments are performed by our registered clinical team under the direct physician oversight of Dr. Carole Williams, MD OBGYN. Every new client completes a comprehensive health intake before any product is placed.

Dysport typically shows initial softening at 3–5 days; Botox at 5–7 days. Full results are visible at 14 days — this is when we assess and offer a complimentary touch-up if needed. Do not judge your results before the two-week mark.

Most clients describe each injection as a brief, sharp pinch lasting less than a second. The needles are ultra-fine gauge. For clients who are nervous about discomfort, topical numbing cream is available on request. The entire treatment typically takes 15–20 minutes.

Baby Botox refers to using smaller doses of product to soften lines while preserving more natural movement — ideal for first-time clients, younger clients in their 20s or early 30s focused on prevention, or clients who prefer a very subtle, natural result. It typically lasts slightly less time than a full treatment but is a great starting point if you are new to neuromodulators.

No. As a strict medical safety precaution, Sparkle MediSpa does not perform Botox, Dysport, or any cosmetic injectable treatments on clients who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding. Please wait until you have finished breastfeeding and consult with your physician before resuming aesthetic treatments.

For 24 hours after treatment: avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area, intense exercise, alcohol, saunas, steam rooms, and lying face-down. For 2 weeks: avoid facials, chemical peels, and other facial treatments in the same area. These precautions prevent product migration and protect your results.

Botox and Dysport treatments at Sparkle are performed by Yannick RN, Taryn RN, Brady RN, Katie RN, our registered clinical team who specialize in advanced injection techniques. All treatments are performed under the direct physician oversight of Dr. Carole Williams, MD OBGYN, Medical Director.

Risks & Side Effects of Botox® and Dysport®

Botox® and Dysport® are Health Canada–approved neuromodulator treatments with a long-established safety record when administered by trained medical professionals. They remain medical procedures and carry potential risks that every client should understand before treatment.

Common Temporary Side Effects

  • Mild bruising or pinpoint bleeding at injection sites
  • Mild tenderness during and immediately after treatment
  • Temporary feeling of tightness or heaviness in the forehead — resolves within 24–48 hours as the muscle adjusts

Less Common or Rare Risks
