Chin (Mentalis)

Botox can be used to improve the appearance of the chin in certain cases. Here’s how it can be utilized:

Chin Dimpling or Orange Peel Texture: If a person has unwanted chin dimples or an “orange peel” texture, Botox injections can be administered to relax the underlying chin muscles. This helps to smooth out the skin and reduce the appearance of dimpling.

Mentalis Muscle Overactivity: The mentalis muscle, located in the chin area, can sometimes become overactive, leading to an uneven or bumpy appearance. Botox injections can be used to weaken the mentalis muscle and reduce its contractile force, resulting in a more relaxed and smoother chin contour.

Chin Pebbling: In some cases, the chin may exhibit a pebbled or puckered appearance due to excessive activity in the mentalis muscle. Botox can help relax the muscle and improve the overall texture of the chin.

Technique 1

There are two ways: 2-point or 4-point. It depends on the width and size of the mentalis muscle and the area of dimples.

Mentalis for projection. When the muscle is strong, it goes more upward. By relaxing the muscle, it goes more “down” and can help with projections. The tension keeps it up and flat (inside).

Units: 3 to 5 per side. Depth: Deep (Full Needle) Tips: Ask your client to make a sad face, then pinch the muscle. Then ask your client to relax and inject straight.

If the muscle is wide and not strong, I would go for 1 unit per injection point or 1.5 units per injection point. Make sure to inject close to the medial area to ensure there’s no diffusion to the DLI.

Depth: Deep (Full depth)

Combining Neurotoxins with Dermal Fillers

Botox for the mentalis muscle and dermal fillers can be combined in certain situations to achieve optimal results. Here are some scenarios where this combination may be considered:

  1. Chin Projection and Volume Enhancement: If a person desires both chin projection and volume enhancement, combining Botox for the mentalis muscle with dermal fillers can be beneficial. Botox can relax the mentalis muscle, helping to improve chin projection, while dermal fillers can add volume to enhance the overall shape and contour of the chin.
  2. Chin Dimpling and Volume Restoration: In cases where there are chin dimples or an uneven texture along with volume loss, a combination approach can be effective. Botox can address the dimpling by relaxing the mentalis muscle, and dermal fillers can be used to restore lost volume, smoothing out the chin and improving its appearance.
  3. Comprehensive Chin Enhancement: For individuals seeking comprehensive chin enhancement, combining Botox and dermal fillers can provide a more complete transformation. Botox can help relax the mentalis muscle, reduce chin dimpling, and improve projection, while dermal fillers can add volume, contour the chin, and enhance overall facial harmony.
