Masseters

Very important: Never go beyond the first line because it would affect the smile, and never go towards the tail of the eyebrow.

Results: Masseter Botox can help with TMJ, bruxism (teeth grinding), face slimming, and tension headaches.

Units: Start with a maximum of 15 units per side, and in subsequent treatments, you can increase to a maximum of 25 units per side (50 units in total). This helps avoid the common side effect of food pocketing without affecting your smile. What are the potential risks associated with masseter Botox?

Depth: Full-depth injections may be required, and some additional pressure may be needed.

Risk: Improperly placed injections can lead to complications such as loss of full smile, asymmetric smile, sunken lateral cheeks (infrazygomatic hollows), difficulty opening the mouth, xerostomia, or neurapraxia.

Masseters

Technique 1

There are two ways: 2-point or 4-point. It depends on the width and size of the mentalis muscle and the area of dimples.

Mentalis for projection. When the muscle is strong, it goes more upward. By relaxing the muscle, it goes more “down” and can help with projections. The tension keeps it up and flat (inside).

Units: 3 to 5 per side. Depth: Deep (Full Needle) Tips: Ask your client to make a sad face, then pinch the muscle. Then ask your client to relax and inject straight.

If the muscle is wide and not strong, I would go for 1 unit per injection point or 1.5 units per injection point. Make sure to inject close to the medial area to ensure there’s no diffusion to the DLI.

Depth: Deep (Full depth)

Combining Neurotoxins with Dermal Fillers

After receiving Botox injections in the masseter muscles to address concerns such as teeth grinding, TMJ, or to slim the jawline, dermal fillers can be used strategically to further enhance the desired effect. Here’s how dermal fillers can be used after Botox in the masseters to create a slimmer and more defined jawline:

  1. Adding Volume and Contour: Botox injections in the masseter muscles help reduce their size and relax their activity, resulting in a slimming effect. However, if additional volume or contouring is desired, dermal fillers can be used to strategically add volume and shape to specific areas of the jawline. This can create a more sculpted and defined appearance.

  2. Correcting Asymmetry: In some cases, asymmetry in the jawline may persist even after Botox treatment. Dermal fillers can be used to address any remaining asymmetry by adding volume to the less prominent side of the jaw or filling in any indentations or irregularities.

  3. Chin Enhancement: A well-defined chin can contribute to a more balanced and attractive jawline. After Botox treatment in the masseters, dermal fillers can be used to enhance the chin by adding volume, projection, or improving its overall shape. This can further accentuate the slimming effect of the jawline.

  4. Overall Facial Harmony: Combining Botox in the masseters with dermal fillers in other areas of the face can help achieve overall facial harmony. For example, if the cheek area lacks volume or appears sunken, dermal fillers can be used to restore volume and create a more balanced appearance, complementing the slimming effect of the jawline.
