OBSERV Skin Analysis

Moncton · Dieppe · Riverview

In short: Nordlys IPL photofacial is a non-invasive light-based treatment used to improve sun damage, brown spots, redness, rosacea-like flushing, visible capillaries, uneven tone, and dull skin. At Sparkle Lifestyle & MediSpa in Moncton, Nordlys is our featured IPL platform, with ICON IPL also available when clinically appropriate. Your provider will choose the device, filter, pulse settings, and treatment plan based on your skin tone, pigment type, vessels, sun exposure, sensitivity, and whether IPL is truly the safest option for your concern.

What It Treats

Photofacial results are about choosing the right light for the right target.

IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, uses controlled pulses of light energy to target pigment and visible vessels in the skin. The goal is a clearer, more even-looking complexion with less redness, fewer visible brown spots, and a brighter overall glow.

Brown Spots

Sun spots, freckles, age spots, and uneven pigment caused by years of UV exposure may gradually darken, flake, and fade after treatment.

Redness

Diffuse redness, flushing, and rosacea-prone skin may look calmer over a series when treated with the correct settings and maintenance plan.

Capillaries

Small visible vessels and broken capillaries on the face may soften or become less noticeable depending on size, depth, and skin response.

Tone & Glow

When pigment and redness improve, skin often looks fresher, brighter, more even, and more radiant with less reliance on makeup.

Important: Not every brown patch is a good IPL candidate. Melasma and heat-triggered pigmentation can worsen with the wrong light or heat-based treatment. If we suspect melasma, we may recommend skincare, pigment control, PicoWay, gentler laser options, or a staged plan before considering IPL.

The Sparkle Process

What to expect, start to finish.

01

Skin Assessment

We review your skin tone, pigment type, redness pattern, capillaries, medications, skincare, sun exposure, and treatment goals.

02

Device Selection

Nordlys is our featured photofacial platform. ICON may be selected for specific pigment or vascular patterns when it is a better clinical fit.

03

Treatment

Light pulses are delivered across the treatment area. You may feel quick warmth or a snapping sensation. Cooling and careful settings help support comfort and safety.

04

Progressive Results

Pigment may darken before flaking away. Redness can improve gradually. Most plans involve a series plus skincare and sun protection.

The Technology

Nordlys is not a basic spa IPL.

Nordlys is a medical aesthetic platform by Candela that uses selective light-based technology for common concerns like pigmentation, redness, and photoaging. Instead of treating every face with the same generic “photofacial,” we choose settings based on what your skin is actually showing: brown pigment, diffuse redness, visible vessels, texture, sensitivity, and risk factors.

Nordlys IPL

Our featured option for refined photofacial work, especially when we want controlled, targeted treatment for redness, pigment, and overall rejuvenation.

ICON IPL

Also available at Sparkle and may be chosen for certain sun damage, pigment, or vascular concerns depending on the pattern and clinical goal.

Trainer-Level Judgment

Device choice matters, but provider judgment matters more. Your treatment is adjusted to skin tone, pigment depth, vessel pattern, and heat sensitivity.

Why It Matters

The safest photofacial is the one you are actually a candidate for.

  • Brown sun spots, redness, and vessels need different settings.
  • Recent tanning or sun exposure can increase risk and may require delaying treatment.
  • Melasma, deeper skin tones, heat sensitivity, and certain medications require extra caution.
  • Skincare and SPF are part of the result, not optional extras.

Technology Comparison

Nordlys vs. ICON, BBL, Lumecca, M22, and “regular IPL.”

Many technologies can improve sun damage and redness when used well. The difference is not only the brand name — it is the filters, pulse structure, provider training, endpoint recognition, skin prep, aftercare, and whether the device is appropriate for your skin. Sparkle uses Nordlys as the featured IPL platform and ICON when it better matches the clinical target.

Candidacy

Who is a good candidate for Nordlys IPL?

Best candidates

People with visible sun damage, freckles, brown spots, redness, flushing, small capillaries, and uneven tone who can avoid tanning and follow SPF instructions.

Needs caution

Darker skin tones, recent tans, melasma-prone skin, heat-sensitive pigment, active irritation, certain medications, and recent procedures may require a different plan.

Consultation first

We review your concern in person, discuss realistic expectations, and explain whether Nordlys, ICON, skincare, PicoWay, CO2RE, Potenza, or another plan makes the most sense.

Your medical history matters. Please tell us about pregnancy, breastfeeding, photosensitizing medications, Accutane/isotretinoin history, blood thinners, autoimmune conditions, history of cold sores, active infections, recent injectables, recent laser treatments, sun exposure, self-tanner, or any reaction history before IPL.

Pre-Care · Post-Care · Recovery

How to prepare for a Nordlys IPL photofacial.

Your result depends on more than the device. Sun exposure, tanning, skincare actives, medication history, aftercare, and SPF all affect how safely and evenly your skin responds.

Before your appointment

  • Avoid tanning, tanning beds, self-tanner, and significant sun exposure before treatment.
  • Pause retinol, AHAs, BHAs, exfoliants, bleaching creams, and irritating actives as directed.
  • Tell us about medications, supplements, cold sores, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and recent procedures.
  • Do not arrive sunburned, irritated, scratched, freshly waxed, or actively flared in the treatment area.

Day of treatment

  • Arrive with clean skin and no makeup, sunscreen, perfume, lotion, oil, or self-tanner on the area.
  • Expect a warm pulse or quick snap. Eye protection is worn during treatment.
  • Your provider may test or adjust settings based on your skin response that day.
  • Treatment usually takes about 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the area and plan.

After your session

  • Redness, warmth, mild swelling, or a sunburn-like feeling can be normal temporarily.
  • Brown spots may darken before flaking or fading. Do not pick or scrub them off.
  • Avoid heat, intense exercise, saunas, hot tubs, exfoliants, retinol, and harsh products until calm.
  • Use gentle skincare and daily SPF. Sun protection is essential after IPL.

Immediately After

Skin may look pink, warm, or slightly swollen. Pigment may begin to look darker.

24–72 Hours

Redness usually calms. Treated pigment can look like tiny coffee grounds before lifting.

5–14 Days

Pigment gradually flakes or fades. Redness and tone improvements continue to build.

Series Results

Most clients need a series of treatments for best improvement, then maintenance and SPF.

When to contact Sparkle: Please contact the clinic if you notice blistering, crusting, severe swelling, worsening pain, drainage, signs of infection, unusual pigment changes, or any reaction that worries you. For urgent symptoms, seek medical care immediately.
