Microneedling Recovery & Results: The Ultimate Pre/Post Care Protocol

Collagen Induction Therapy | Safe Healing | Professional Aftercare in Moncton

Microneedling (Percutaneous Collagen Induction) is a powerful treatment for scarring, texture, and anti-aging. However, the 48 hours following your session are the most critical. Because the procedure creates thousands of invisible micro-channels in the skin, your barrier is temporarily open. Following this medical-grade protocol at Sparkle Lifestyle & MediSpa ensures you “heal shut” with maximum collagen and zero complications.

The “Golden Rules” of Post-Microneedling

Your skin is a sponge for 24 hours. Anything you put on it—good or bad—will penetrate deeply. To protect your investment, adhere to the following:

  • The 24-Hour Rule: No makeup, no sunscreen, and no active skincare (Retinol/Acids) for the first full day. Only use the sterile recovery balm provided by your Sparkle technician.
  • Hands Off: Do not touch your face. Bacteria from your hands can easily enter the micro-channels and cause “breakouts” or infection.
  • Sleep Clean: Sleep on a fresh, silk or clean cotton pillowcase on the night of your treatment.
  • Cool Water Only: For the first 48 hours, wash your face with lukewarm or cool water only. Avoid hot showers or steam.

Timeline of Recovery: What to Expect

Phase Skin Appearance Care Priority
Day 1 (0-24 Hours) Mild to moderate erythema (looks like a sunburn). Tightness. Hydration & Sterility. Use only recommended serums.
Day 2-3 Redness fades to pink. Skin may feel dry or “sandpapery.” Gentle cleansing & Physical SPF (Zinc-based) is now mandatory.
Day 4-7 Possible light flaking or peeling. Do not pick! Moisturizing. You may resume non-acid makeup.
Day 7+ The “Microneedling Glow” begins to appear. Resume Retinols/Acids if skin feels fully recovered.

What to Avoid (The “Never” List)

To prevent Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) or scarring, avoid these for at least 72 hours:

  • Sweating & Heat: No gym, saunas, or hot yoga. Sweat can irritate the open channels and cause a stinging rash.
  • Direct Sun: The new skin is highly vulnerable. Wear a wide-brimmed hat if you must go outside.
  • Chlorine/Salt Water: No swimming pools or ocean dips for 5 days.
  • Exfoliation: No scrubs, Clarisonic brushes, or chemical peels for 1 week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Vitamin C after microneedling?

We recommend waiting at least 48 to 72 hours before using Vitamin C. While it is great for collagen, the acidic pH can cause significant irritation on freshly treated skin. Stick to Hyaluronic Acid for the first two days.

When can I wear makeup after microneedling?

Wait a minimum of 24 hours. If you must wear makeup on Day 2, we strongly recommend using a mineral-based foundation that allows the skin to breathe and won’t clog the healing channels.

What if I see little white bumps after my treatment?

These are often “milia” or a mild inflammatory response. They are common and typically resolve on their own. Do not squeeze them. If they persist or look like pus, contact our Moncton clinic immediately.
