Laser hair removal works by sending light energy into pigmented hair. The goal is to heat the follicle enough to reduce future growth. Tattoo ink also absorbs light energy, but in a much more concentrated and unpredictable way.
That means a hair removal laser cannot reliably “skip” your tattoo and only treat the hair inside it. If the laser hits tattoo pigment, the heat reaction can be intense and unsafe.
