Dermal Filler Aftercare

Before Your Dermal Filler Appointment

To reduce the risk of bruising, swelling, or discomfort, we recommend the following pre-treatment tips:

One Week Before:

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (unless prescribed by your doctor), such as:
    • Aspirin
    • Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
    • Vitamin E
    • Omega-3s
    • Ginkgo Biloba
    • St. Johnโ€™s Wort
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before your treatment.
  • If youโ€™re prone to cold sores and getting filler around the lips, ask your provider about antiviral medication to prevent a flare-up.

Day of Treatment:

  • Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup or skincare products.
  • Eat a light meal beforehand and stay well-hydrated.
  • Let us know if youโ€™re feeling unwell, have had recent dental work, or are planning a dental appointment within 2 weeksโ€”this may affect your eligibility.

After Your Dermal Filler Treatment

Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising are normal and usually subside within a few days. Follow these post-care guidelines to help your skin heal and your results settle beautifully:

First 24โ€“48 Hours:

  • Avoid touching or massaging the treated area unless advised by your provider.
  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours on or around the injection sites.
  • Use a cold compress (not ice directly on skin) to reduce swelling or discomfort.
  • Sleep on your back with your head elevated the first night.
  • Avoid strenuous workouts, alcohol, heat, and saunas for at least 24โ€“48 hours.

First 7 Days:

  • Avoid facials, laser treatments, or dental work for one week post-treatment.
  • Bruising can be covered with makeup after 24 hours if the skin is intact.
  • Stay hydrated and apply gentle skincare as advised.

When to Contact Us:

  • If you experience severe or increasing pain, discoloration, or signs of infection (such as fever, pus, or redness that worsens), contact us immediately.

When Will I See Results?

  • Fillers provide instant volume, but final results appear in 7โ€“14 days once swelling fully subsides.
  • Minor asymmetries or lumpiness can happen temporarily and usually resolve on their own.
  • We offer follow-up appointments to assess your results and ensure youโ€™re fully happy.
